Pat brings nearly 30 years of experience in the construction industry, with a career defined by leadership, growth, and deep sector expertise. Before joining Platform, he founded and led the National Construction Practice at Marsh Canada, growing it into the largest construction-focused brokerage team in the country. His leadership extended globally as the sole Canadian representative on Marsh’s Global Construction Executive Committee. Throughout his career, Pat has worked closely with many of Canada’s leading contractors, providing strategic support and risk advisory services on large-scale, complex infrastructure projects. His ability to align insurance strategy with project execution has made him a trusted partner to construction firms navigating high-stakes developments.

Barry Normet

Managing Director, Head of Strategy, Construction & Development

With an MBA from McMaster University and over 25 years of experience in insurance and surety, Barry is a seasoned industry leader known for his strategic insight and operational excellence. He began his career on the carrier side, spending 15 years leading high-performing underwriting teams across more than 15 lines of insurance and surety. In 2014, he joined Marsh Canada to help launch a national Construction and Surety practice, which thrived under his leadership for the next decade. Today, as Managing Director, Head of Strategy of the Construction & Development group at Platform, Barry partners with top professionals to deliver exceptional value to contractors, engineering firms, and project owners. His extensive experience working with successful clients has given him a sharp understanding of what “best-in-class” looks like and how to help clients achieve it.

Grant Carter

Managing Director, Head of Surety, Construction & Development

With over 14 years of experience in the insurance and surety industry, Grant specializes in delivering tailored surety solutions to clients in the real estate and development sectors across Canada. At Platform, he has played a key role in scaling the team into the country’s largest Developer Surety brokerage, helping clients unlock capital and optimize their balance sheets through innovative bonding strategies. Grant’s expertise spans both underwriting and brokerage, having previously held roles at Trisura Insurance Company in construction insurance and surety underwriting. His deep understanding of the market and commitment to client success make him a trusted advisor for developers seeking strategic, cost-effective risk solutions.

Fraser de Walle

Managing Director, Head of Insurance, Construction & Development

With over 20 years of experience in insurance and risk advisory for the construction sector, Fraser is a recognized leader in delivering strategic solutions for contractors, developers, homebuilders, and engineering firms across Canada. As Managing Director, Head of Insurance of the Construction & Development group at Platform, he brings deep expertise in operational insurance programs, project-specific placements (COC/Wrap-Up), and contract and developer surety. Prior to joining Platform, Fraser led national construction initiatives at Marsh Canada and played a pivotal role in launching innovative bonding solutions such as pay-on-demand subdivision bonds now adopted by major municipalities nationwide. A four-time recipient of the BILD CR Professional Service Provider of the Year Award, he is known for building and scaling high-performing teams, having grown a corporate construction portfolio from 150 to 250 clients in just two years. Fraser continues to be a trusted advisor to industry stakeholders, combining technical insight with a forward-thinking approach to risk and insurance strategy.
